International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID)

International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) is one of the five intergovernmental organizations that make up the World Bank Group.  It was established in 1966 by the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States (the Convention). To date, 144 countries are ICSID members.

ICSID aims to foster increased flows of international investment by providing a neutral international forum for the resolution of disputes between governments and foreign investors. Under the Convention, ICSID administers procedures for the settlement of such disputes by conciliation and arbitration, in cases where both the host and the home country of the investor are ICSID members. Pursuant to Additional Facility Rules adopted in 1978, ICSID also administers certain types of proceedings between governments and foreign nationals that fall outside the scope of the Convention. Another dispute settlement activity of ICSID has consisted in the Centre undertaking to appoint arbitrators and/or administer proceedings conducted under the Arbitration Rules of the U.N. Commission on International Trade Law.

In addition to its dispute settlement activities, ICSID has a publications program in the area of foreign investment law.

Singapore Academy of Law

The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) has close to 8,000 members comprising all persons who are called as advocates and solicitors of the Supreme Court or who are appointed as Legal Service Officers. The membership of SAL comprises of the Bench, the Bar, and large numbers of corporate counsel and faculty members of the local law schools.

SAL is focused on three key areas: supporting the growth and development of the Legal Industry; building up the intellectual capital of the legal profession by enhancing Legal Knowledge; and improving the efficiency of legal practice through Legal Technology.

Singapore Corporate Counsel Association

The Singapore Corporate Counsel Association (SCCA) was set up in 2002. It is the pioneer association representing in-house lawyers in Singapore.

The work of the SCCA is to raise the profile of in-house lawyers, through the introduction of formal continuing education and certification processes and also provide a platform for representation of the interests of the in-house lawyers' community and their employers, relevant to legislative developments and other issues.

Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration

The Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) was established in November 2004 within the umbrella of the Singapore International Arbitration Chambers (SIAC). As from May 2009, the SCMA has been reconstituted as a company limited by guarantee and separate from the SIAC. The SCMA has members from all sectors of the maritime community and from all countries – all sectors are treated equally as all sectors are users of SCMA.

The SCMA aims to provide the international maritime community with an independent, efficient and reliable dispute resolution process in Asia. There is a new set of Rules. The SCMA charges no management fee, there is no mandatory scale of arbitrator fees and parties may appoint their choice of arbitrator whether or not on the SCMA panel.

WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center

Established by the Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center offers alternative dispute resolution (ADR) options for the resolution of international commercial disputes between private parties. The arbitration, mediation and expert determination procedures offered by the WIPO Center are widely recognized as particularly appropriate for technology, entertainment and other disputes involving intellectual property.  The WIPO Center, which is also the global leader in Internet domain name dispute resolution, has a strong commitment to the time and cost effectiveness of its ADR services.
